Upcoming event: ‘Integrating research-led employability in foreign policy courses: A case study’

In this edition of the CPP series, we are very pleased to welcome Victoria Honeyman, who will be giving a talk titled: ‘Integrating research-led employability in foreign policy courses: A case study’

Abstract: The term ‘Employability’ tends to generate different responses within different groups. While some individuals dislike the term ‘employability’, its position and prominence within UK universities is secured and increasingly employability is being highlighted in both teaching and assessment terms. This paper discusses two real-life case studies from the University of Leeds within the School of Politics and International Studies. Both modules focus on different aspects of foreign policy, and this paper discusses how employability skills were centred in the assessment of these modules, our experiences of surfacing employability skills and the impact on students and the modules that were adapted. It considers how decisions were made on amending the assessment, how skills were surfaced and developed and the impact on students, both in terms of their assessment journey and in their knowledge of their own skillset.
